Tag Assignment

There are two ways to give a player a tag, and you can use either one alone or both together — they combine into a single list.

Manual Assignment (Users list)

The Users list on the PL_PlayerTags script lets you assign tags directly in the Editor — no in-world panel needed for this asset.

Each row has two fields:

  • A tag popup, listing every tag from your Tags list.
  • A player name field: the player's exact VRChat display name.

Since this list is Editor-only, changing it requires re-uploading your world — there's no live management panel for Player Tags.

Remote Whitelist (optional)

Instead of, or alongside, the manual list, you can assign tags from an external text file (such as a Pastebin), fetched automatically when the world loads.

  • User List Url: The raw URL of your list. Create a paste on Pastebin, click the Raw button, and copy the URL from your browser's address bar (it should look like https://pastebin.com/raw/...).

Format one entry per line:

PlayerName, TagName

For example:

CrZ, Admin
FriendOne, DJ
FriendTwo, Bartender
  • The tag name after the comma must match one of the names in your Tags list exactly. An unrecognized tag name is simply skipped, without causing any errors for your players.
  • Fetched entries are added to the end of the same combined list the manual Users list uses.

How the combined list resolves

Both sources feed into one list, checked in order — manual entries first, then remote entries — and the first match wins. If the same player name appears in both the manual list and the remote whitelist, the manual entry takes priority.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Matching is by exact VRChat display name. A player who changes their display name will stop matching an existing entry under their old name.
  • Both sources are resolved the same way, whether a player already has an entry when they join, or the remote list finishes loading after they've already joined — either path can grant a tag.
